Frozen, snow covered Lake Cadillac is in the background.
Now a pawn shop, the brick building on the left was once White's hardware store where Oscar Peterson sold his fish decoys.

Looking west along the old logging canal that connects Lake Cadillac to Lake Mitchell.
The M-115 bridge is in the background. Frozen Lake Mitchell lies just beyond.
In the winter the canal freezes over before either of the lakes.
Once the lakes freeze over the canal ice melts and it remains open throughout the winter.
This unusual phenomenon has earned the canal a place in the Guiness Book of Records.

William Mitchell State Park lies along the south side of the canal.

The Carl T. Johnson Center and Museum is on the north side of the canal.
Local fish decoy carvers sometimes test "swim" their decoys in the canal.
